Art Basel Miami: Photo Diary, Part 2

After a hectic day of taking in art at Basel, the night didn't get any tamer. I headed to the Standard Spa, where Terry Richardson was hosting a release party for his new book TERRYWOOD. The setting was beautiful, and I was actually able to relax on one of the big, cocoon-like straw chairs set up by a small fire near the ocean. After that, I left for Le Baron, but this time the party took place at Pearl on Ocean Drive. There, the door was absolutely mobbed. Luckily, I caught the eye of Julio, the bouncer, who helped me leap over a nearby ramp to get in, instead of pushing through the mess of a crowd. Inside, OC friends and family abounded, and it was another great night of dancing and cracking jokes on the breezy terrace.

The next day, after a swim, I went to NADA to check out CANADA Gallery, The Journal Gallery, The Hole, Half Gallery, and Peres Projects. A pool party was happening, with performance acts like Sam Banks of Chez Deep dancing in chunky heels to Rihanna's "Diamonds." After a quick stop at my hotel, I prepared myself for a long night––since I had a 7am flight the following day, I decided I wasn't going to sleep.

First up in the rounds was Villa Vecchia, where Kathy Grayson curated a show with some artists from The Hole (Matthew Stone, Holton Rower, Kembra Pfahler, Evan Gruzis) and others (Richard Prince, Wes Lang). We then took a boat back to Ocean Drive, where we met some friends at Le Pompon. There, The Journal was celebrating the release of its 32nd issue, and we kicked it there until dawn. A few hours later, I'd be landing in a very gloomy New York (where I would try to fight the melancholy by going to the Matisse show at the MET for one last dose of sunshine).
