Givenchy and Hepburn, Saint Laurent and de la Falaise... the relationship between designer and muse has been integral to fashion history. Our favorite contemporary designers and their influences are no exception. This season, we asked designers to photograph the people, places, or objects that inspired their Fall/Winter 2012 collections. From batmobiles in Paris to the best skate spots in Moscow, they did not disappoint. Check out what else they came up with in our new series, "Under the Influence."
Today’s images come from French designer Simon Jacquemus, who found his muse in French DJ Clara 3000, and by a stroke of luck, also found the perfect batmobile to photograph her in front of.
Who is your muse? Clara
Describe the first time you met: We met at Club Silencio, where she was playing. My friend introduced me to her.
How does she influence you? She has something very “Jacquemus” about her—she looks like a shy little boy. She is not girly, and she is true.
What’s the relationship between designer and muse? It's a strange relationship that is between love and friendship. Sometimes, I see myself in her.
Is there a concept that you feel always has an influence on your collection? The inspiration stays the same but the story and the characters are different. I'm always influenced by the south of France, my mother, and any film with Isabelle Adjani in it.
Have you and your muse ever worked collaboratively? Clara helped me with the music for my first show.
What is your favorite thing to do together? She plays music and I dance!
Does she have a secret talent? She’s a super DJ
Do you have any secret talents? Dancing
Where did you shoot these photos? In Paris. We were supposed to shoot them somewhere else but we fell in love with the car and the tiled walls.
In another life, my muse was: Lolo Ferrari
