Postcard from CMJ: IO Echo

Oh yes, the CMJ music marathon has taken over New York! We checked in with some of our favorite artists for the occasion.

IO Echo is a West Coast-based group that makes an exotic blend of Shoegaze music. However, to pigeonhole them with the rest of the newer bands mining the droning sounds of 90s Creation Records bands would be a serious mistake. With their unique arrangements featuring exotic instruments from all over the world and a strong influence of up-tempo electronic music, IO Echo are in a class of their own. Having opened for The Big Pink, Florence and the Machine, The Drums, and Nine Inch Nails, as well as being behind the soundtrack of the upcoming Harmony Korine and James Franco film, Rebel, IO Echo credentials speak for themselves. I got a chance to catch their performance at Glasslands Gallery last night and was blown away by how the songs translated live. All in all, IO echo is not a band to be missed.
