Slogans & Cigarettes: Leo Fitzpatrick at The National Exemplar

Yesterday, Leo Fitzpatrick's latest show opened at The National Exemplar gallery, which recently relocated from midtown to Soho. Leo decided to show two kinds of works: his series of vintage pin pieces and his cigarette butt paintings, which he talked about here when we popped into his studio. The pins––which display funny messages like, "Ludes make better lovers," "I wish you were a beer," and "Admire me"––were reminders of how humor in art can be refreshing. It's easy to imagine waking up to a "Jesus Christ is Lord" next to an "Under-achiever of the Month" to start your day on the right foot. The cigarette paintings were cool to look at, despite the scent emanating from them. Have a look at our snaps from the opening below, and be sure to catch the show in person before it closes on November 23rd.
