Any music lover knows the glorious feeling of reminiscing about having seen a band before it got big––in those formative years, so close you could touch them. Wednesday night's TEEN show and record release at Le Baron felt like one of those moments?? You couldn't help but feel like Kristina "Teeny" Lieberson (vocals/guitar), Katherine Lieberson (drums), Lizzie Lieberson (keys), and Jane Herships (bass) were on their way to becoming MAJOR.
There's no stage at Le Baron; the band was simply tucked away against the back wall, amongst the black and red of the decor. Their set was a perfect selection of my favorites from their first album In Limbo, which dropped the same day. Before taking to their instruments, the girls hung out together at the bar and shared drinks with friends, dancing and joking around. When it came time to play, Teeny (also the band's namesake) decided to perform barefoot with a whiskey on hand. These girls are just cool.
There were no gimmicks, no "outfits." Throughout the set, the girls looked back and forth at each other and cracked smiles, acknowledging emotional connections to the album's songs written during their time "in limbo." And on this particular evening, we got to share that with them. Sounds like the making of a good story to me.
