Out East: Idol Opens in Tokyo

While all you East Coasters were at work last Friday counting down the last seconds of your work week, Tokyo was a dozen time zones ahead of you with a party in full swing. August 5th marked a particularly notable event: the grand opening of the much-anticipated IDOL boutique. Like Colette in Paris, Idol is part gallery, part store, part café, and all awesome. It's the new place in Tokyo for creative people to eat, shop, see and show art, and participate in special events. It's a breath of fresh air for the city––one guest told me the opening was "the biggest thing to happen here in 6 years."

The party was certainly huge––the line for drinks went down the bar, around the corner, and up the stairs! Guests shopped, ate, danced, and checked out all kinds of art selected by the salon/curators Shizen. Wig artist Plumb set up some freaky mannequins and Keiichi Nitta showed a series of photos for Numéro Japan. OC BFF Kathy Lo also had work on display. Kathy's current work examines individuality through the lens of her organic gardening and features cuties like Matthew Logos from OC's Hood By Air video. Congrats, on the great work, Kathy!

If you're out East, make sure to come get an eyeful and a mouthful at Idol.
