It's gonna be a long, hot summer in the Northern hemisphere! Our column "Wet Hot OC Summer'" shares the best ways to combat the heat.

This week, I stopped by the People's Pops shack in the East Village. People's Pops started in 2008 when Nathalie Jordi, David Carrell, and Joel Horowitz began making ice pops with fresh, local fruits. Now they run four shops around NYC––in Park Slope, Chelsea Market, the East Village, and on the High Line. Their frozen treats come in flavors like raspberry-basil and blueberry-apricot, which I enjoyed for $3.50. Check out my Q+A with Nathalie below.

Store name: People's Pops

Locations: here

In business since: 2008

Peak hours: Weekends

Most popular flavors: Raspberry-basil, strawberry-rhubarb, Concord grape

How did you get into the ice cream biz? By accident!

What's your favorite flavor? Describe its taste in 3 words: Cantaloupe-tarragon. It's summery, intriguing, and refreshing.

Ice cream or gelato? Ice pop!!

Fantasy ice cream flavor? We make our fantasies come true! I'm looking forward to yellow plum and mint later this summer though.

Favorite childhood ice cream memory: Making ice pops in a little ice cube tray!

Do you have any regulars? Yes, tons. There are people who remember our first day in business at the Brooklyn Flea and who still show up there!
