La Danse en France: HOMECORE SS12

HOMECORE was the first French hip-hop clothing label. Back in the late 80s, Alexandre Guarneri and his friend graffiti artist Steph Cop began making T-shirts printed with their work. It wasn't streetwear per se, but its attitude and affinity for movement aligned it with the spirit of hip-hop, just as the genre was taking hold of Paris. Artists like Dee Nasty, and H.I.P. H.O.P.—the first ever TV show devoted to the genre, which aired in France throughout 1984—were defining a new style of musical identity and HOMECORE became a part of it.

But more than falling in line with a specific genre, Alexandre values a sense of independence. HOMECORE has evolved just as hip-hop has diversified and, as the current collection shows, the guys who wear Alexandre's pieces now aren't easy to pigeonhole. In 2012, the overriding feeling is that HOMECORE's clothes are unpretentious, and classic in a way that stays true to the label's beginnings; crewneck sweaters with geometric knits, easy cotton T-shirts, and pants with simple tie belts are still comfortable enough to dance in.
