One of my earliest memories is of being trussed up in a tiny piece of tiger-print fabric to play a very fat Mowgli in my sister's home video remake of The Jungle Book. Apparently, we weren't the only ones obsessed with Rudyard Kipling. This season, London couple Susan Ostwald and Ingvar Helgason (together: Ostwald Helgason) foraged through the English writer's stories of far-flung adventures and came back with a rare collection of materials.
On the collector sweater, the designers make use of real flowers. They pressed dried hydrangeas between layers of vinyl to make shiny floral paillettes and offset the matte canvas that runs throughout the collection. Prints like "Sea Salt" and "Air" speak to Kipling's taste for exploration, and even cork makes an appearance—scultped into tees and bombers. Matching cork caps with shiny patent trim only confirm that Ostwald's sportswear-and-silks approach is a winning one.
