'Locals Only' is a column in which we ask friends from ARGENTINA, our featured country, where they like to eat, thrift, hide out, and hang out in Argentina.
We love Maria Pryor's designs and had a blast taking a trip into her sugary imagination back in November. For this installment of Locals Only, this charming Argentine filled us in on where to get a fix of whimsical refinement in her hometown of Buenos Aires.
Place for a low-key dinner with friends: The White Unicorn Hall at the Faena Hotel.
Restaurant for a first date: If the vibes are right, Azul Profundo is cool and alluring.
Favorite gallery: I like the Marnam Gallery. And as far as museums, the National Museum of Fine Art is a classic, as is the Argentine Museum of Latin American Art (MALBA). When I'm overseas, a walk by the Louvre is magical.
Favorite bookstore: I like El Ateneo Gran Splendid the best. It used to be a grand theater before they converted it into the most extravagant bookstore on the planet!
Best place for coffee: The roof garden of the Alvear Palace Hotel has a very good coffee bar.
Best choripan sandwich: I'm a vegetarian, so I wouldn't know what place to recommend to eat meat.
Best alfajor cookie: The best alfajor is by the brand Havanna.
Best vintage store: I prefer the flea markets for clothes and furniture.
Barrio to spend your Sunday: I like the bohemian barrio of San Telmo.
Best place for a weekend getaway: When I spend a weekend abroad, I like the Loi Suites hotel in Iguazú, deep in the Amazon forest––so breathtaking!
The one thing to bring with you from Argentina when you travel: Without a doubt, a Maria Pryor garment!
