On Tuesday night, a few of us from the OCLA crew went to support the rare species of women directors! Hosted by AFI at the Director's Guild on Sunset, the event opened with a poignant speech by Neema Barnette. Eight short films by mainly Los Angeles-based female directors were screened to a packed theater. The films' topics ranged from fantastical lunacy to racial tensions in worker communities, and they covered a spectrum of styles and moods. Afterwards, the filmmakers and actors mingled with supportive fans and friends, with some wine and finger foods to help. Keep your eyes and ears out for these names, their films pack a huge punch!
