Coachella 2012: An Ed Banger Diary

Amandine, Ed Banger's girl-of-all-trades, shares her miscellaneous snaps from the first weekend of Coachella 2012!

Oh, Coachella! I've been here five times now, and year after year you make things bigger and bigger! Here is a little recap of the first week end.

Day 1:
Our lovely Breakbot opened the festival and played his first-ever live show at the Sahara tent, which was packed and crazy despite his early slot and the bad weather. The whole Ed Banger crew was there to support, and I admit I got pretty emotional when the audience started singing along to "Baby I'm Yours."

Following Breakbot, SebastiAn took over the place and rocked it. He played while a big storm was about to hit. That's right––a storm at Coachella?! WTF! The good news is that it wasn't the end of the world; some of the Ed Banger crew went home while I stayed behind with a few other troopers to watch the Arctic Monkeys on the main stage. They're English and are used to rainy festivals, so lucky for us they provided the blue sky! I watched the show next to David Hasselhoff, who dug it as well. He's a regular at the festival, and this year he even brought along his K2000 car!

I ended the day on-site watching Pulp play the hits. Jarvis killed it and I jumped up and down like crazy to "Common People." My only regret is missing out on one of my all-time favorite bands, The Rapture. But I know they did great, and I look forward to seeing them this weekend.

Day 2:
The second day was sunny and spent mostly at the Burton pool party, happening at the Ace Hotel. Pedro was DJing and the frenchies took over the place (not without a few margaritas). We ran to the festival from there to check out a few shows. Noel Gallagher made my day when he played "Don't Look Back in Anger." It reminded me of my early groupie teenage years when I was so in love with Oasis! Flying Lotus was pretty amazing––that was probably the highlight of the day. I also saw Radiohead for a bit before we headed to the one and only Jeremy Scott party at the Frank Sinatra house. A-Trak had taken control of the turntables and with a perfect hip hop set. We all had good fun; SebastiAn and Breakbot did a little fashion catwalk by the pool, while Brodinski and Pedro did their favorirte tribal dance. As we say, rien de nouveau sous le soleil!

Day 3:
We didn't see many performances on day 3 since we were all so excited about Justice's show on the main stage! They played after the Hives and rocked the place. Due to some technical problems, they couldn't play a full set (which was a bit frustrating) but they did the job and the audience loved it. Everyone especially went nuts when they slipped a Jay-Z "Onto the Next One" sample into "D.A.N.C.E." I can't wait to see them play again next week. Believe it or not, I missed Dre and Snoop but saw footage online. That hologram thing is pretty wild––I won't miss it next week!
