Each year the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx gives us respite when we need it the most. Just as we are starting to forget what spring looks like, having lived among the black coats and the grey streets of NYC during wintertime, the Orchid Show bursts onto the scene with color, warmth, and liveliness. Billed as the nation's largest and only curated orchid exhibition, it transforms the NYBG's complex of greenhouses into a jungle filled with some of the wildest floral creations from around the world.
This year's exhibition, the tenth anniversary, is curated by artist/botanist Patrick Blanc and focuses on vertical gardens and green walls. This is no simple display! Blanc has created a three-dimensional garden with orchids and ferns both underfoot and overhead—covering walls, arches, tropical trees, and even waterfalls. The vivid colors and crazy shapes of the orchids are meticulously placed throughout the exhibit, creating vibrant indoor landscapes. The Orchid Show is always something to look forward to, and this year's show is as breathtaking as ever.
