Our blogger Paris Starn not only bakes but also helps run a non-profit called Teen Art Gallery (T.A.G.).
When Teen Art Gallery was created last year by the NYC high school senior Audrey Banks, it drew the attention of many publications, including New York Magazine and The New York Times. T.A.G. is run by about a dozen members, all of whom are teenagers. Adults do not supervise us––we organize the gallery and its shows by ourselves, obtaining and selecting submissions, planning events, contacting press, making and designing postcards, curating, hanging the art, and finding spaces. All of the art comes from teenagers from across the country.
Last Thursday, T.A.G. had its first opening of the year, a one-night charity event and exhibition at the Rogue Gallery in Chelsea. We had an overwhelming amount of submissions for the show (about 7,000), from which we chose thirty works to be featured. The pieces were incredible, the turnout was amazing, and the event was tons of fun! We have an opening coming up on June 6th at the Freeman Alley space of the Salon 94 gallery. Please come for another incredible night!
