BITES ON A BUDGET is a toothsome and tasty series where members of the OC family forage for great food––under $10!
No. 7 Sub just doesn't stop! These crafty sandwich-makers with a LOCATION AT THE ACE HOTEL have given us a fresh reason to go to Brooklyn with their new Greenpoint location. After working up an appetite at the coffee cupping sesh at Toby's last week, I made a trek in the miserable rain to get myself a lunch worth blogging about. I got the Meyer lemon chicken sandwich ($9), a tangy and delicious assembly of premium ingredients all imbued with a special citrus flavor. To achieve this savory combination, No. 7 roasts a full chicken and tosses the cooked meat with freshly squeezed Meyer lemons. This is slapped onto fresh bread from Caputo bakery along with homemade sundried tomato mayo and crunchy kale that's been pressed with salt for 24 hours. All of these hours of preparation culminate in voracious sandwich scarfing that leaves you in a blissful post-meal stupor.
The arrival of No. 7 is good news for Brooklynites—it wouldn't be fair to exclude them from the sandwich party. And if this new spot seems like one too many train changes away, the menu features new options that make it worth the trip. My favorite are the craveable waffle fries ($5), which are cooked to a perfect, crispy crunch and tricked out with fresh herbs and lime. This place is not to be missed!
