This year's FILM ON THE ROCKS festival in Thailand felt so monumental that the organizers, our friends Nat Sarasas and Chomwan Weeraworawit, are calling it the first of an annual event!
Hosted by actress Tilda Swinton and filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul, the creatives who were invited to the four day-long festival on the stunning southern Thai island of Yao Noi came together to share some of their favorite films with each other. Everything about the festival was over-the-top and spectacular, and involved so much more than just film. Our days were filled with island-hopping, forest trekking, limestone cliff-gazing, scuba diving, and batiking, while our nights saw carnivals, light installations, and moonlit dinners on the beach. Just getting to the Six Senses Yao Noi resort, where Film on the Rocks was held, required a 40-minute boat ride from Phuket through the crazy-gorgeous limestone island mountains.

On our first day, we took a longboat ride to a neighboring island for a picnic and a hike to "the Big Tree" (more on that in a bit). Carol and Derek sat on the bow and Carol almost lost her new Kenzo hat!

Arto Lindsay and Rikrit Tiravanija put on a performance piece at the Big Tree. Originally Arto was going to play his electric guitar (which he brought, along with a generator) but he was warned the noise would wake the tree spirits.
