Each month Ace Hotel New York hosts an Artist-in-Residency program, also known as Ace AIR, where creative minds from around the world are invited to spend one night in an Ace hotel room to create a masterpiece. These artworks have come in all shapes and volumes, from quick sketches and elaborate paintings, to mix-CDs and even sculptural forms. The opportunities are (almost) limitless. Ace Hotel eventually displays these artworks in an installation in their gallery. Remember our post last week about + Pool?

This time around, Plus 81, a publisher based out of Toyko, curated the selection of artists partaking in the residency festivities for the month of March. This week’s Ace AIR artist is none other than our OC friend and designer, Ikumi.

Ikumi invited us over to hang out with her at Ace Hotel and document the happenings. From playing with Legos to admiring the view outside her “Attic” suite, we had tons of fun exploring the hotel together while she thought of ideas of what to create. Eventually we had to leave her so she could start her work, but we’re very excited to see what she completes. Stay tuned for news on the next Ace Gallery installation—who knows what we will find?Photos by Riley GallagherFrom playing with Legos to admiring the view outside her “Attic” suite, we had tons of fun exploring the hotel together. IKUMI and Riley
