Jacques Tati's pivotal 1967 film Playtime recounts the story of a disorientated American exploring the futuristic landscapes of Paris for the first time. So it comes as no surprise that J.W. Anderson's charmingly distorted Spring/Summer 2015 collection pays homage to the absurdist French filmmaker. Fitted with asymmetrical slits and distinctive knots in relaxed silhouettes, Anderson challenges our sense of "balance" to create a unique collection of sophisticated and peculiar garments.
Blending the elegance of Elizabeth Taylor with the insolence of Jane Birkin, the collection features stand-out pieces such as the Apron Band Dress and Knot Jersey Skirt—which exhibit Anderson's fetish for incorporating a little "sex" into his designs. Nineteen-sixties mod-esque basics like the Classic Shirt and Trousers are updated with knotted panels, adding to the effortless, business casual appeal of this collection. In addition to these refreshing ready-to-wear pieces, the signature avant-garde J.W. Moon Bag makes a comeback in classic, slick-black leather.
Although the collection was created with the French bourgeois in mind, you don't have to be in Versailles to rock these super-wearable garments.
