Skate Rat NYFW Diary: William Strobeck At OC Fall/Winter 2015

Spike Jonze may have been the man of the night during the Opening Ceremony Fall/Winter 2015 show, but there's another dude behind the lens that's managed to capture lo-fi, uncencosored footage of the honorary skateboard-centric filmmaker before him.

William Strobeck has become a household name in the skate world—although when you first meet him, he might jokingly deny his existence and tell you his name is in fact Will Smith. (Reporter's note: Thanks for the insane Googling session, Will!) When he's not directing skate videos for Supreme, he's hosting a who's-who of the downtown world with impromptu photo shoots in his own household. Seriously, who doesn't want to chill with the likes of Alex Olson, Brianna Capozzi, and this guy?

With his candid, raw shooting style that echoes the very era Jonze made his name in, Strobeck is a man who's all about taking from the past to move forward. "I grew up looking at magazines and [his photos] were in magazines at the time," says Strobeck. "I’m just so nostalgic when I see it now."

Let the nostalgia sink in and allow Strobeck's event coverage photos take you back to the lo-fi days of skate photography—when it was less about giving a fuck and more about chilling with the homies.

"Skateboarding was really fun back then and in [Spike's] photos it looks like they’re goofing around and having fun," says Strobeck. "That’s what I kind of try to do today with kids and it’s a way different ball game. Spike captured a good time in that world."
