This past Friday, before pre-Grammy celebrations, Opening Ceremony hung out with designer Bernhard Willhelm for his latest collection reception-slash-exhibition, Bernhard Willhelm 3000: When Fashion Shows The Danger Then Fashion Is The Danger.
The opening was held at MOCA at the Pacific Design Center in West Hollywood (recall our exclusive sneak peek), a multimedia showcase bursting with Willlhelm's signature textures, colors, and camp. The Belgian designer managed to transcend his loyalty to a single medium over the years and has made his art also about photography, video, sculpture, and painting. In other words, Willhelm created the perfect crossover.
While the designer has had retrospectives at both the ModeMuseum in Antwerp and the Groninger Museum in the Netherlands, this was his first time showing in Los Angeles since his initial move to the city from from Paris last year. The energy was high and eclectic, with an overwhelming turnout of LA’s stylish set who were all eager to steal a first glimpse of the designer's latest work—think international artist KESH, Luke Gilford, Niko the Ikon, and even Pamela Anderson. The gang's all here.
