But Bilitis Dix-Sept Ans is giving us something better. The Japanese label, new to OC this season, makes (almost) grown-up versions of our perfect fantasy ballerina outfits. Puff-sleeve dresses with full pin-tucked skirts, cross-over blouses, and tulle ballerina skirts are taken out of the sickly pinks of beginners class and into soft grey, black, and white.
Designers Yuko Seshimo and George Hoshi dreamed up the line around Bilitis, an imaginary 17-year-old French girl. And her ghostly teenage sprit, combined with Yuko and George's antique lace trims, gives the collection all the guileless, slightly eerie, charm of, well, an imaginary French girl.
