“Um… maybe we should go check out the art?” was the question most often heard at Tuesday night’s opening of the 2012 Whitney Biennial. And not because the art was anything less than spectacular, but rather how hard it was to pull yourself away from the all-star crowd, the hors d’oeuvres, and of course, the bar—needless to say, the party was poppin’!
As for the art, from Joanna Mailowska's deer sculpture, K8 Hardy’s hair weave, to Nick Mauss’ accurately sized room rendering (complete with Ellsworth Kelly lithograph), it was worth ditching the crowd to catch a glimpse of it all. Check out some of my favorite pieces from the show.
Opens today through May 27th, 2012.
