Opening Ceremony Women's Spring/Summer 2015: The Lookbook

For Spring/Summer 2015, Opening Ceremony brings it back to the innocent, hazy dreams of suburban life. Before the responsibilities of adulthood set in, there were outdoor pools, indoor malls, and teen naïveté. We spent the summer of 1991 in this world, circling cul-de-sacs and breaking into pools. It was a quiet kind of rebellion, before subversion had consequences and the Internet would diffuse a thousand wayward voices into complex subcultures.

In the days before the Internet, communication was simpler: letters, numbers, and punctuation. Taking inspiration from early computer technology, we created patterns and shapes modeled after ASCII code. Body-con dresses and structured coats with clean lines are texturized with custom prints of keyboard characters. Layered hemlines, mesh trims, and stacked welt pockets emulate the angles of repeating symbols. The color palette, meanwhile––blush and tangier pinks, ceramic and palladium greens, and cerulean––recalls suburban yards in the early hours of dawn, when a group of friends might slip in for a swim. Trapeze-like blouses fasten with hand-lock closures, conjuring the fences that would enclose these yards. Woven and embossed jacquards mimic the surreal topography of pools. Laminated fabrics, tile-like grommets that open to skin, and magnifying beads reinforce the water theme, while silhouettes like a one-sleeve coat and an asymmetric, laser-cut skirt play with perspective.

Spring/Summer 2015 handbags reinterpret classic shapes in custom prints and colors. A mini shoulder bag comes in an all-over ASCII pattern, while a structured tote is cloaked in dreamy, psychedelic faces. Our Izzy backpack and Lele handbag, seen in previous collections, are reimagined in miniature sizes. Sky-high printed snake wedges sport wrap-around ankle straps, while city boots get a feminine update with overlapping hardware and a leather, stacked-platform sole. The signature Opening Ceremony hand detail is back in new iterations, on a series of totes, wallets, and even key chains. Also featured among Opening Ceremony's accessories collection is the MICA (My Intelligent Communication Accessory) bracelet, designed by Opening Ceremony and engineered by Intel. Coming this holiday season, MICA is available in both black and white snakeskins with semi-precious stones, including lapis, pearl, tiger's eye, and obsidian.
