Steve Mono designer Gonzalo Fonseca carefully inspects each of his bags before hand-packing them into the shipping crate to send to OC. "If anything is ever wrong with them, you can blame me!" he said when he dropped by OCNY a few weeks ago. But they're never short of perfect. The Spring/Summer 2012 collection combines supple calfskin with the woven textiles used to make traditional Spanish horse blankets. Nautical striped canvas and block-colored red, white, and blue leather combine on stacks of multi-use pouches that fasten and unfasten with nifty button snaps. Designing with his alter ego—Steve Mono, a Mad Men-era office man—in mind, the designer provides iPad cases, phone covers, totes, and ingenious 4-in-1 clutches for the modern-day Don and Peggy (after she got glamorous).
