Thanks to the ADIDAS ORIGINALS X Opening Ceremony Spring/Summer 2014 collection, we're feeling sportier than ever! In LET'S GET PHYSICAL, we check in with friends to find out how they stay in shape.
It’s not every day you get to learn a sport from an Olympian. Last week, this fencing novice spent a day at Brooklyn Bridge Fencing Club in Dumbo with RACE IMBODEN. I first got to know Race when he starred in my short film INTO THE LIGHT featuring OC's gorgeous Spring/Summer 2014 collection. After we met up at his training grounds, we suited up in the adidas Originals x Opening Ceremony baseball collection––whose cozy sweats and sneakers were just as awesome for landing a touch (or as the French would say, touché!) as for hitting home runs.
First, Race taught me the en garde or starting position, the proper stance, and how to move like a fencer. After picking up a few tactics on how to to trick your opponent, we did a proper bout, or match! I was nervous bouting with an Olympian, but I really went for it. Apparently, I was extremely aggressive and the only non-fencer who's ever advanced or taken the offense on Race.
The end score? Race Imboden, 5; Maryam L'Ange, 4. Beat by a hair by an Olympian. A great workout if I ever had one!
