Rachel Comey Fall/Winter 2014: New York Fashion Week

Rachel Comey's fashion shows tend to have something cozy about them. For Fall/Winter 2014, her models were clad in buffalo plaids, quilted fabrics, and fuzzy leopards, their hair as mussed as yours might be after a day sledding in Vermont. Or maybe just Red Hook on a snowy––er, slushy––day in February. The Brooklyn hood, far from the hubbub of Milk Studios or Lincoln Center, is where the designer has presented her last two collections. And who can blame her, slush or none? Pioneer Works, the nineteenth-century factory turned art space that hosted the shows, is what I imagine a plush pirate ship might look like, with brick walls and soaring, wood-beamed ceilings. At the candlelit dinner last night, small tables of guests previewed the collection while enjoying wild boar and cauliflower.

But Rachel Comey Fall/Winter 2014 wasn't just about wrapping yourself in fuzzy fabrics: more than one look included silky, psychedelic patterns and trippy comic-book prints. And of course, covetable, comfortable shoes: metallic pointy-toed oxfords, two-toned slingbacks, and rubber-soled flatforms that might even have made it through the ice puddles outside.
