Lingerie shopping can be the least fun thing ever––second only to swimsuit shopping after you've eaten brunch. Murielle Scherre, the designer behind the newest intimates line at OC, La Fille d'O, understands that. Knowing that not everyone fits into the 30–40, A–F structure developed for bras, she created a unique sizing that allows you to choose yours based on your shirt size, with a fully adjustable band and shoulder straps.

Murielle's goal is to make you as comfortable as possible in your own skin. To acknowledge the differences in your body and consider them beautiful instead of flaws. "I could line up 10 women in a size one and 10 women in a size five and they would all look different." Her lookbooks are untouched––no Photoshop allowed. The models are still stunning of course, but they too have that extra skin when they bend over, giving you a better idea of what the bra actually looks like on. Plus, two birds with one stone: some of her pieces are made of a swimsuit material, so you can use them for your summer bikini.

Feeling better about bra shopping now? Read on to learn more about Murielle and La Fille d'O, and then head to your nearest OC store to see its power for yourself.

Dana Melanz: What does La Fille d'O mean?
Murielle Scherre: It literally means "daughter of O" in French. The inspiration comes from the movie called The Story of O about a successful female photographer in the 70s who meets a new lover and basically becomes his possession. This came out in the 70s, when it was quite controversial––especially among feminists––that a successful woman would give up her independence to become an object of desire. Today, a lot of women who are in between: In one day I can be a mother, an entrepreneur, a woman, a girlfriend, and a boss, and I want my lingerie to support that. You never know what’s gonna happen during your day. All of a sudden, you might meet the man of your dreams. La Fille d'O is about being prepared. We’re like the Boy Scouts of lingerie.

I read that you met your boyfriend when he came to do carpentry work for you.
Yes, about four years ago. Do you think I was prepared for that? In the morning, you don't think about meeting the future father of your child. I was wearing like, overalls. But I always have my lingerie under whatever I'm wearing, so it doesn't really matter what I’m confronted with.

Do you create the textiles yourself or do you source them?
We are a small company so we are not able to create the fabric. But we always work with the same factory in Belgium, and the silk comes from France. We use a fabric called Magic Curves. Normally, Lycra would stretch one way and then the opposite way. But this fabric stretches like your skin––in every way––which is insane. When you wear it, you can feel how it reacts differently. But it's so subtle that people can’t really put their finger on it.

Are there any special techniques that you've found to make bras more comfortable?
I am very technical. Every new collection I ask myself, "What story do I want to tell, what do I want to show?" For the Spring/Summer collection, I found this technique with something called a Merrow machine. It's super old, they had to bring it back to life for me. It does this special seam that was originally for corsetry, where the edges of the seam are in the stitching so it gives a really flat surface. It allowed me to do very sleek, simple shapes. A machine or fabric can inspire a w
