In "SOUND CHECK," we check in with some of our favorite musicians.

Shlohmo's Instagram feed can work as a nice metaphor for his music: both are decisively off-beat, experimental, and disorienting but also completely entrancing. You've probably heard or seen his name before––whether that was while browsing the recently released 2014 Coachella line-up, or after Shazam-ing one of his many hypnotizing remixes of popular songs by artists ranging from Haerts to Aaliyah. As far as we're concerned, there's no doubt that Shlohmo is a mix-master of electronic music. We checked in with him recently. Find out what his desert island disc is and more, while listening to one of our favorite tracks of his––a remix of OC mixtape alum Samo Sound Boy's "Your Love."

Samo Sound Boy - Your Love (Shlohmo Remix) by shlohmo

Danny Sway: Fill in the blanks: Our band is ___ and our music is like ___.
Shlohmo: I'm Shlohmo and I'm just one guy and my music is whatever.

If your most recent album were the soundtrack to a film, what would it be, and why?
Scream 3 because it was the worst one.

What's your desert island disc?
Blink 182's Buddha or D'Angelo's Voodoo

Speaking of discs, what would be on your dream pizza?
I'm lactose intolerant, so no cheese. I'll just eat the crust.

Best tour food you've had?
New Orleans gourmet, five-star Southern shit. Frog legs, crawfish, and all that.

Worst tour food you've had?
A "Reuben" sandwich in Auburn, Alabama. It was made of Wonder Bread, roast beef, and ketchup.

Whose style did you admire as a teenager?
I skated so mostly skateboarders, I guess. Old Chinese men. I was always into the militant, chill skinhead look. Cool Japanese streetwear guys. I don't know. I feel like street fashion was whack when I was in high school, so I found my inspiration elsewhere.

Favorite thing to do when you're not listening to music?
Sitting down.

If it was socially acceptable I would ___.
Smoke with the police.

Ramen or pho?
Ramen every time. Pho is like dirty water. Same with coconut water.

What's in the cards for you in the upcoming months?
Making a record, producing for some singers and rappers, playing some shows, and working on our next Wedidit releases. Also––sitting down a lot, hopefully.
