Gone Hunting for Magic: SUNO Resort 2014

The idea behind SUNO's resort collection, "City girl goes hunting in an enchanted forest," is right up designers Max Osterweis and Erin Beatty's alley. "We wanted to do something that felt natural, but still a bit magical," Erin said in an email. Although it sounds whimsical, there's nothing overly toothache-y about their collection. Think of what Shakespeare's Puck would wear as a streetwise maven who lives in Brooklyn when not wrecking havoc. Or, if you're the Disney type, Snow White who would have checked on Yelp to see if the evil witch was a reputable produce seller before biting into that apple. Florals, plaids, and stripes—SUNO signatures—live on a combination of body-flattering dresses and angular layering on skirts and coats. The hemlines are longer but not matronly, and cut-outs are never too revealing. The SUNO woman this season loves her prints and feminine shapes, as she does every collection, but there's a city-worn smartness underneath the fairy dust.
