To the OCers who partied at Milk Studios late into the night yesterday with Cleo Le-Tan, Venus X, Lissie Trullie, and Wu-Tang Clan, 11am felt like the crack of dawn for Pamela Love's Fall/Winter 2012 presentation. Luckily, Pam was smart enough to anticipate morning-weary guests and had hot Gevalia Kaffe brewing for them as they walked into the gallery.
The setup was no different from the usual Pam Love Fashion Week package––with five stunning girls poised on platforms, making eye contact with every lens in the room. In the past, they've been alienesque creatures and Western/Saharan queens. This time, the girls played the part of the Southwestern factory girl. Donning leather worker aprons, tees with rolled-up sleeves, loose overalls, and charcoal-like smears on their cheeks, the models embodied everything rusty and dusty about the industrial Southwest. The brassy metal jewelry with dashes of lapis and muddy maroon bore the designer's signature mix of wildchild-meets-folk jewelry with a pinch of the occult.
