We've all been there. Your friend is moving into a new apartment and in anticipation of the upcoming housewarming party, you buy him/her an adorable new baby monkey. Ok, maybe that's not the best idea. But as far as animal gifts go, you can't go wrong with these handmade bronze figurines from WALTER BOSSE OBJECTS. Walter Bosse was a prolific Viennese artist who worked in ceramics before turning to bronze. In the late 1940s he developed his famous "Black Golden" line—bronze animal figures coated in black ceramic—which was popular worldwide in the 1950s. Unfortunately, he was unable to continue crafting, and the pieces became scarce, until recently. Modern Vienna Bronzes is now creating official reissues of Bosse's Black Golden line, following the artist's original vision and methods. From an owl candleholder to a miniature monkey to a stack of hedgehog ashtrays (which makes one big ole' hedgehog ashtray), these pieces are adorable without being cloying, and well-made, so there's no worries of them being broken the next time your friend inevitably moves. In which case, you'll have to figure out another gift.
