This London Collections: Men's fashion week, the lovely style blogger Susie Bubble reports, just for OC!
You can always trust Lou Dalton to bring calm before the storm. She kicks off the London Collections: Men Fall/Winter 2014 proceedings by once again mining a wistfully idyllic aspect of her upbringing: the young farmhands she once observed on her grandparents’ farm. “I had this idea of young scally farmhands living on a caravan in the back of a farm, having many a relationship with local farm girls,” she explained after the show.
The result was a collection far more sensual than expected that also avoided the heritage/workwear clichés that so often come with clothing inspired by agriculture. Dalton's were seductive farmhands trussed up in washed-out cords, soft knits, and bleached denim in blue, cream, and a violent shade of pink. You could well imagine men in layers of these worn-in and rumpled clothes working the fields with a hot and steamy affair on the side. “I want the boy to feel like he owns [the clothing],” said Dalton. “I want every girl to go, ‘He’s alright…’” We’d say it was more than alright. It’s a Cold Comfort Farm fantasy that guys will be eager to wear and girls even more eager to get familiar with.
