When Naoki from Opening Ceremony Japan asked CONFETTISYSTEM to decorate the Tokyo flagship for the holidays, we couldn't help but meow with joy. Located on Cats Alley in Omotesando, the store has a feline theme we knew would be a dream to decorate in our favorite lamé garlands and floaty foil.
In the store's window, we built over-sized cat heads to top mannequins and created an enormous cat panel that peeps out on to the street. Inside, frisky garlands and piñatas keep things festive. We also brought a few of our favorite pieces from NYC and set up a holiday pop-up selling gift wrap, gift boxes, and our PARTYPARTY COLLECTION of hanging paper decor. With the kawaii complete––that's cute in Japanese––we hosted a workshop to teach shoppers how to craft their own ornaments. In case you missed it, check out our instructions below!
CONFETTISYSTEM's holiday pop-up is open until December 25 at OCJP's Omotesando store
1. Cut 1" x 5" strips of colored and metallic tissue paper. (Each side of the pyramid will require 8 strips.) Use fringe scissors to cut 1/2" fringe along length of the strip.
2. Apply glue to one triangular face of pyramid box. Layer fringe strips, beginning at triangle base and working upwards. Once you're finished layering, trim excess fringed paper with scissors along the edge of the box. Repeat on remaining three sides of box. Alternate between metallic and colors to create your own custom pattern.
3. Fold box into pyramid shape. Place any favors and gifts inside and close the box up with metallic twist ties or colored string. h
