Bites on a Budget: £4.40 at Food For Thought

Food For Thought is Covent Garden's little vegetarian paradise. As the name suggests, thought is clearly something that goes into the menus the London restaurant procures daily. They always have at least one dish that is completely gluten-free—ideal in a world where food intolerances are are becoming as common as colds.

Tiny and cramped inside (the low seating alcoves were once used to ripen bananas!), the hippie hot-spot is always worth a visit for the homemade, wholesome food. OC London's Shawana and intern Yonnica picked out the Marrakech bake for just £5.20—sweet potato and peppers in a spicy harissa sauce topped with couscous. I chose the daily quiche, this time made with zucchini, mushroom, and red pepper (£4.40). Hot cheese and melt-in-your-mouth pastry made the dish not just wholesome but highly indulgent.

Although Food For Thought's menu rotates, there are a few staples that have stood the test of time. These include stir-fried vegetables tossed in tamari and ginger (£4.60) and the typically English strawberry, banana, and blueberry scrunch to abolish those post-lunch sugar cravings (£4.40). Whatever day we pick to visit, Food For Thought is an OC London lunchtime favorite.
