Zain Curtis, the Chicago-based artist/DJ/club promoter/Internet personality with the alias Teen Witch, has just added a new "slash" to his occupations. With the help of Kickstarter, Zain has made his dream of becoming a magazine editor and publisher come true. TEEN WITCH aims to be the BOP or J-14 to the gay and trans youth underground. Issue #1 features an exploding feed of Internet-famous names like Mykki Blanco, Alexis Penney, TEAMS, TEETH, Glass Popcorn, Gerlan Jeans, SSION and many more. I Facebook chatted him the other day to get some insight on his wicked and warped world.

Zachary Ching: Is your alias "Teen Witch" borrowed from the classic '80s movie?
Zain Curtis (Teen Witch): It is! I figured I needed a title that really expressed my nostalgic approach to creating and it just feels really fresh, dark, and striking. It's funny though, I still haven't seen the film.

ZC: What magazines did you read as a tween, and which ones are you reading now?
TW: I recently freaked out over finding a load of old Disney Adventures in my parents' basement. I also had some issues of a publication called Teen Machine with JTT [Jonathan Taylor Thomas] and Brad Renfro––R.I.P.––on the covers. I was also into YM magazine, or anything the Spice Girls were in. Now, my favorite magazine is my Tumblr dashboard.

ZC: Issue #1 is crush-themed. What crushes didn't make it in?
TW: I feel like I was lucky and got what I wanted out of this issue––I still can't believe we got to do something with Jenna Rose! NYC's House of Ladosha and Teengirl Fantasy get a little shout out, but I definitely have to feature them in the next issue. I really want to interview the guy who played the original Blue Power Ranger because I just found out he's gay. I think that would be really interesting.

ZC: What's HOT?
