Shown against the backdrop of a pixelated nighttime cityscape and a miniaturized Hollywood sign, Band of Outsiders' Spring/Summer 2014 collection epitomized that cool Californian style that has become Scott Sternberg's signature. Meant to summon the ghosts of Malibu, these easy-breezy looks would fit right in at the beach town. Long, flowing hemlines were a prominent feature of dresses, skirts, and ponchos, cut in primarily light, muted colors. And, of course, florals came into play—one pattern in particular looked like ocean waves from afar. Although some menswear influences could be seen, this season leaned away from the androgyny of past seasons. Spring's Band of Outsiders girl is feminine and carefree, and this collection made it seem easier than ever to join her in her chilled-out lifestyle.
