OC x NYFW: AWAVEAWAKE SS14

Fashion models tend to have an ethereal look to them, which is probably why they're models. AWAVEAWAKE's Spring/Summer 2014 presentation took full advantage of the otherworldly look, having the models glide across a floor scattered with orchids against a bright white backdrop. Inspired by designer Jaclyn Hodes' travels to Thailand, specifically the city of Chiang Mai, the collection is full of colors pulled from her photos: plant-based dyes of pale peach, salmon, burgundy, purple, chartreuse, and charcoal. Natural silk, cotton, and bamboo fiber blends draped across the models' bodies, always cinched at the waist to add shape, and, as ever, very few garments hit above the ankle.

This season Jaclyn collaborated with Hollow Dancer fto create gold-plated and enameled necklaces and armbands inspired by traditional Thai jewelry. The whole show had a very one-with-nature, spiritual vibe—from the floral arrangement floor to the construction of the garments—and as I left I was definitely breathing a little more deeply.
