The stark, glassy exterior of the Standard Hotel served as a great prelude to the medically inspired Kye Spring/Summer 2014 collection. After the very graphic graffiti-ed Fall/Winter 2013 collection, Kathleen Kye's Spring collection is the exact opposite. Titled "Healing for the Pained Youth", the influence behind this lineup was the prevalence of plastic surgery in today's culture. A Band-aid print, pasted in bright metallic tones, were placed in strategic places across skirts, shirts, and dresses. Corset accents and tight tops like Ace bandages recalled the historical lengths that people have gone to in order to change their physical appearance. A double-monk wedge, reminiscent of Nurse Ratched's shoes, rounded out the surgical theme. For men the influence wasn't as apparent, the pieces instead focusing on baggy, comfortable clothes that one might wear while recuperating, with the Band-aids appearing across the chest of shirts. For accessories, Kye collaborated with two other Seoul-based brands: Gemma Yang for shoes and bags, and Bratson for caps, which topped off the collection with tassels, of course!
