'Noodle Beaches for Meeting Witches' at Secret Project Robot

While most of us are making our final beach trips and squeezing the last of our lime supply into frozen margaritas, a group of Brooklyn-based artists is proof that the summer vibes are anything but over. Noodle Beaches for Meeting Witches is an interactive group art project that recently had a one-night show at Bushwick experimental space Secret Project Robot. The exhibition strayed from the concrete jungle and found solace and inspiration in all things beachy. (Cue Will Smith's "Summertime".)

Walking through the space feels like a trippy version of Blue Hawaii, with sand installations, summer vacation memorabilia, and a surprising amount of Troll dolls. Suitcases filled with beach photos, fishing nets with beach debris, and tie-dyed fabric take over the open space. Attendees can also contribute to a shrine––a communal piece for all "beach-goers" to enjoy. The project's co-founder, Alex Patrick Dyck, explained that it "encompasses so many of the things we wanted to express: the beach experience, our heritage, and a place to make friends and build a community of similar interests."

The show includes work from artists such as Alana Fitzgerald, Elena Stonaker, Alexandra McNutt, Arielle de Pinto, and even OCNY's Neil O'Malley, who recreated the idea of tying T-shirts to driftwood to claim beach territory in the sand. Neil put his own spin on Corona and Dos Equis tees to replicate the flags, and hung them in the space. Fashion, art, and the beach united forces to create an experience that didn't require a commute to Coney Island.

Summer isn't over yet. Shred the gnar and check out the Noodle Beaches for Meeting Witches. Closing party is this Friday, August 30th at Secret Project Robot.
