Velvet Underground: Joomi Lim FW13

Along with Skechers and UFO pants, studded jewelry was a point at which my ideas about what I should be wearing and my mom's diverged. And then came summer camp and my first exposure to American malls. Joomi Lim's fall collection brings back all the reckless excitement I felt walking into a Hot Topic unsupervised, but this time around I won't be left looking like an Avril Lavigne groupie. Joomi's studded fall pieces are in a whole other league. For starters, they're made from bea-u-tiful hyper shiny titanium and steel. Secondly, some, like the five spike small cuff, have been treated to achieve an oil-slick-like multicolor sheen. And lastly, others are covered in velvet-wrapped studs. Velvet! Made by hand in her New York studio, Joomi's pieces are my tween fantasy all grown up.
