Chloë Sevigny for OC: From the Archives - Emilio Cavallini

When Chloë decided on a 60s picket line vibe for her Fall/Winter 2013 collection for OC, there was no question that her wool mini skirts and shift dresses would need some serious legwear options. So this season, in addition to her collaboration with Vision Street Wear, Chloë tapped into another layer of fashion history, teaming up with iconic hoisery label Emilio Cavallini. Picking up on her collection's protest movement theme, Chloë and Cavallini created stretchy intarsia separates patterend with ankhs, cherries, and Eyes of Horus. And of course stockings. So, what better time to take a look back through the Cavallini archives?

Flashback to London, 1967 (picture that bad time warp visual effect)––when Mary Quant introduced the mini skirt and hoisery suddenly needed to up its game. Enter Emilio Cavallini, an Italian college dropout with a passion for tights. Together, Quant and Cavallini pioneered fluorescent and patterned tights that totally exploded. Throughout the 70s, Cavallini would go on to collaborate with houses including Balenciaga, Céline, and Dior, but once 1980 rolled around, the time was ripe to found his own company and develop his own technologies for creating seamless clothing (including a "full body stocking"!).

Cavallini continued full steam ahead, hosting his first runway show in 1987––an avant-garde presentation in which models skipped and hulk-walked in skintight pieces, which we were able to dig up here! In the 90s, the brand was a go-to for stretchy and sporty disco revival pieces, and today it continues to crank out tights from San Miniato, Italy (4 million pairs a year, to be exact!). We are 100 per cento thrilled to have Cavallini as part of the Chloë Sevigny for OC collection. Get a load of these old-school pics of the brand that we found, below!
