Just Eat It: Shake Shack Comes to London!

Since the second I found out that Shake Shack would be opening in London's Covent Garden within steps of the OC shop, memories of the juicy burgers slathered in the famous Shack Sauce, which I tried in New York for the first time two years ago, came flooding back to me. To describe my excitement would be near impossible, and it became my mission to get my hands on the famous burgers in Londontown. But reality quickly settled in when I headed over and found a queue spanning the block. Who was I kidding? It might be London, but it was still Shake Shack.

I needed a better strategy, so along with Lola and Shawana, we went at a non-peak hour and couldn't believe how quickly we found seats. The menu was a great mix of Shake Shack's most loved bites, from the ShackBurger to the gooey, crinkle-cut Cheese Fries––but with added English-y extras. I went for the Shake Stack (a cheeseburger and 'Shroom Burger in one), and a Cumberland sausage dog, which uses traditional English Cumberland sausage. (Being the only meat eater in the group, I had to try it all.) Shawana indulged in the 'Shroom Burger with cheese fries, and Lola had a specially made Shack-cago Dog––minus the beef sausage (those damn veggies!)––and fries. We were in heaven.

But things got seriously English (in the best way) when dessert rolled around. We shared a selection of Concretes, Shake Shack's delicious frozen custard, including the Union Shack (chocolate custard, chocolate hazlenut brownie from the amazing London bakery St. JOHN, fudge sauce, sea salt, and chocolate chunks from British master chocolatier Paul A. Young) and the painfully English Drury Lane Jam (vanilla custard, jam, St. JOHN bakery brown sugar biscuits, and fresh banana), named after London's historical street lined with bakeries. It was as if all of my favorite Shake Shack options and English foods had been combined into a Shake Shack super-menu! Yes this is all extremely dangerous, but not ever something to be passed up.
