Maybe it's the escalators and shining counters in the lookbook, or the metallic handbag that reminds me of a Fendi Baguette, but Kenzo's pre-Fall collection brings to mind a golden era of shopping. Like Rodeo Drive in the 90s. Something about the collection's pastel blue sky print and soft ruffles conjures luxury boutique fittings and candy-colored awnings. As does a pair of lavender leather boots (coming soon!). Designers Carol Lim and Humberto Leon (OC's own mom and pop) are from California after all. Stepping out of the jungle, at least temporarily, this season the duo was inspired by the sky. Silk peplum blouses are patterned with lightning bolts and raindrops, and structured brushed wool coats and A-line skirts come in a soft cloud jacquard. It's the kind of collection that makes you want to throw down the plastic Pretty Woman-style.
