BITES ON A BUDGET is a toothsome and tasty series where members of the OC family forage for great food––under $10!
Recently, the search for a bite on a budget lead me all the way downtown to the Financial District. In the shadow of the Freedom Tower, I waded through the sea of suits surrounding the México Blvd food truck. Waiting, I listened in on conversations about the depreciation of assets and got some interesting looks as I took selfies in the reflective surface of the menus (see below). Just when the spicy aroma was becoming unbearable, it was my turn to order.
At México Blvd they keep it simple—authentic tacos or tortas (Mexico City sandwiches). I went with a taco called Tinga ($3.00), filled with shredded chicken in a tomato and chipotle sauce. I added guac and crispy grilled Chihuahua cheese for $1.00 because YOLO and these are the toppings of the gods. What I experienced was an explosion of flavor, the freshest of ingredients, and a tortilla that will blow your mind. With sauces galore, chicken, steak, and vegetarian options, you can’t go wrong. The best taco in the city is hotly disputed, but México Blvd's creations have everything that I could ask for and more.
