Bites on a Budget: $9.25 at Pop's of Brooklyn

BITES ON A BUDGET is a toothsome and tasty series where members of the OC family forage for great food––under $10!

After a late night outing with friends in search of some midnight snacks, Pop's of Brooklyn has become my go-to spot for a greasy fix at any time of day. Pop's stands off of the corner of Bedford and North 8th Street, with all the comfort food you can imagine. Mac-and-cheese, burgers, chicken fingers, fries, onion rings, and shakes are just some of the options you can choose from at this local joint, named after owner John Seymour's dad, whose face you can find stenciled everywhere from the menu to the outdoor signage.

During a recent afternoon lunch hour, I decided on their sliders, $5, and cheese fries, $3.50 (though I'll swear by their chili cheese fries, $3.75, any day). Their fries are just crispy enough to withstand the gooey cheese they're covered in, and the fresh ingredients in their burgers have you feeling as guilt-free as it gets after a fast food meal. With its vintage rock 'n' roll tunes and old school photographs of mustached dads on the walls, Pop's is the perfect place to chow down on some comfort food and reminisce on the days you hung with your old man.
