A Little Free Library Pops Up in Nolita

Mahatma Gandhi said, "An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind." But the Little Free Library that popped up recently in Nolita, with its "take a book, return a book" system, shows that bartering isn't so bad, because I am typing this with my 20/20 vision eyes (thanks, Acuvue!) happily nestled in place. Generously donated by Brooklyn College, the circular yellow construction that looks like it wandered straight out of a Pixar movie was designed by the supercool designers at Stereotank. Visitors are invited to step inside and snag a book, DVD, or CD (Haydn's hit album The Creation? Grab it before it's gone.) from its shelves as long as they provide a replacement. Now all we need is for someone to swap their copy of Infinite Jest for a new read so that I can finally get my hands on the book I've been too lazy to buy. Oh, and did I mention there's no one there to scold you about having to use your "indoor voice" either? Best library ever!

LITTLE FREE LIBRARY, NOLITA
Spring St. between Mulberry & Mott
New York, NY 10012

Plenty of natural light enters through the library's roof (though it may not be the best place for a rainy day)
