BITES ON A BUDGET is a toothsome and tasty series where members of the OC family forage for great food––under £10!
There is a specific reason why I often find myself in southwest London's Brixton. No, it's not for the eclectic food markets you can find on Electric Avenue, nor for the incredible/bizarre voodoo stores that sell imported "magic candles," promising things from "true love" to "immaculate conception." The purpose of my journeys to Brixton is to indulge in my favorite (and conveniently super affordable) pizzeria in London Town, Franco Manca.
For as little as £4.50, you can feast on a humongous tomato, garlic, and oregano pizza, made with the most delicious sourdough base and cooked in their wood-burning oven built specially in Naples. I went for the #4—Gloucester Old Spot ham, mozzarella, buffalo ricotta, wild mushrooms, and tomato (£6.85)––which I polished off with a bottle of Green Daemon pale ale (£3.00). Most of the ingredients at this Italian-owned and -run spot come from local English businesses and organic farms. In my opinion, you just can't find better.
