Bites on a Budget: £4.50 at Chase & Sorensen, London

BITES ON A BUDGET is a toothsome and tasty series where members of the OC family forage for great food––under £10!

As of late, OC London's Elin and I have been craving a Danish classic—the open rye sandwich. So we headed down to Chase & Sorensen deli on the corner of Dalston Lane in Hackney, which serves exactly that! Elin sampled the colorful smoked salmon with dill and mustard sauce on rye (£4.50) while I went for the Karrysild of pickled herring in a creamy curry sauce on rye (£4.50), and both sandwiches came with a tasty side salad. To drink, we had americanos (£1.75) but also opted for Cocio, a popular Danish chocolate milk, and Faxe Kondi, a fizzy lemonade.

In addition to importing Danish delights like regional Haribo and chocolates (which you can buy at the counter), these guys offer locally produced goods, including Shoreditch-based Allpress coffee, E5 Bakehouse bread, and yummy cakes from Violet Cakes on Wilton Way. We had just enough room left to share one of the cinnamon buns (£2.80) for dessert. Swing by for a little slice of Scandinavia!
