Loafer 2.0: Introducing Adieu

People genuinely used to keep pennies in their penny loafers. Prep school kids in the 50s would stash change under the strap for making pay phone calls. Since then, the loafer has gone through many incarnations, on the feet of JFK (brown), Don Johnson in Miami Vice (white), and Michael Jackson (black, white socks). For Spring/Summer 2013, Paris label Adieu presents its own take on the loafer, inspired by the designers' love for thick-soled Teddy Boy styles. Founded in 2012, the line brings together the talents of industry insiders Benjamin Caron and Isabelle Guédon, who have clocked time at a long list of Paris houses that includes (Yves) Saint Laurent. This is their second collection and styles include zip-front boots and brogues for boys, and lace-up loafers and suede oxfords for girls—all with chunky crepe soles.
