Piotr Uklanski's 'Pornalikes' at Karma

Last week was the opening for Pornalikes, a show at Karma by the New York-based Polish artist Piotr Uklanski. Uklanski, who started out as a photograper, found and selected imagery of porn celebrity lookalikes from various online, film, and print sources like the UK magazine Loaded. Besides provoking uproarious laughter, an X-rated "Eddie Murphy" or "Iggy Pop" has a dual effect––it's a satire of superstardom as well as a commentary on the near-absence of identity in the porn industry. Interestingly, the appropriation artist Haim Steinbach came to see the show as well. Afterwards, everyone headed to the restaurant Il Buco to continue the fun.
